Black Friday

This year was the first time ever that I waited in line at any store ever way early in the morning. It will also be the last time. A couple of weeks ago I saw an add for Toys R Us, if you bought a train table you will get a train set for free. Since we were planning to buy Diego a train table anyway, I decided I would go shopping when they opened at midnight. My sister and I headed out, we seriously did not know how crazy it would be. We left her house around 9ish and arrived at the store around 9:30ish, to our surprise there was already a line, not bad of line, but one long enough for us to hurry up and park and take our place. Apparently, the new big toy this year is Zhu Zhu pet, a hamster thing, and most of the people were in line to buy one. Turns out they were sold out everywhere and people were selling this $10 toy for around $100 on Ebay. So we did what any sane person would do, we got a ticket for a Zhu Zhu pet, just in case, my sisters kids wanted one, or maybe sell them on Ebay. So we waited for 2 1/2 hours in the cold, chatted with people, even helped the people behind us get a ticket for the pony they were planning to buy, they only had 15 tickets so we were lucky. Then an hour before the store opened it got crazy, there was cars and people everywhere, people trying to cut in line, people in line screaming at the people trying to cut, just plain nuts. Thank goodness Toys R Us informed all non-line people they would not be allowed in until all the line people went in the store. The line was massive, good thing we were part of the first 50 or so. Finally we went in, I had enough time to grab the train table, and a couple of things that I was not even planning to buy but the price was ridiculously awesome, before the store was so jam packed you couldn’t move, I think I took a whole 10 minutes to get what I wanted if that. We decided to go ahead and get in the ever growing line to pay, because we couldn’t shop anymore at this point. We were out of the store by 1ish, and we brilliantly decided to go wait at Old Navy since they were opening at 3am. My sister wanted a game for my nephew they were giving away. We waited at Old Navy for an hour and a half, when they finally came out to give people tickets they ran out within a minute. What the…? We went ahead and stayed, my sister found a pair of jeans she wanted and ran to the ever growing line, and I tried to maneuver in the jam packed store. It was a fun, scary, crazy, night. I won’t be doing that ever again.

The line at Toys R Us when we arrived, not bad, the line behind us was way worse.

I snagged these toys for Diego, I didn’t have enough time or space to find anything for Dylan.

The Imaginarium train table, the only reason I decided to wait in line, but I saved $50!

train table train set

I saw this in the circular as we waited in line, it was a great deal

workbench

The Idog was also on sale for $5, I couldn’t pass that up.

Probably not a good idea, since Diego already writes on the walls. This Aquadoodle Mat you hang on the wall, and the markers only work on the mat. SCORE!

These Thomas the Trains were on sale for $5 bucks each. You could never have enough trains.

I can’t wait for Christmas!

Laurie "Stewart" Is My New Name

Saturday, November 28, 2009

So back in the day, like when I was in elementary school, I used to be quiet the artist/creative girl. I mean, I won art contests, that's how serious I was. I kinda grew away from it, but now that girl is back in full force. Somewhere deep inside there is a mini Martha Stewart waiting to come out, and secretly I have always loved Martha Stewart. I am a frequent visitor of Martha's website.

So after reading about these ornaments wreaths here then here, I decided I wanted to make one also. I was so pumped I told everyone-my coworkers, sisters, friends, anyone who would listen. Of course, a couple of people laughed at me, well mainly my sister Amy. She is older so I know that is her job to doubt me. So I did what both of these bloggers said to do and headed to the Dollar Tree to pick up some ornaments. Unfortunately, I wanted to do mine in red, black, and silver, so I only bought the silver/gray, and mini red ornaments. I headed to Walmart and bought both small and medium sized black ornaments and medium sized red ornaments. I however bought way to many ornaments, I had two unopened boxes left over, the wreath calls for 80 ornaments. Don't ask me how many I used I think it was around 50-60, I really did buy way to many.

So basically all you need is a wire hanger, I didn't have any so I stole some from my dad, a glue gun and ornaments. You unwrap the hanger, and form a circle out of the hanger. I had Jesus do this for me, it was somewhat a circle at the end. Then I just threaded the ornaments on alternating shape and color, and used the mini ornaments to fill the gaps. I hot-glued the hooks to the balls, especially the dollar store ornaments, those totally suck. They kept breaking and falling off. You can do this wreath really inexpensive with these ornaments but they are really bad quality. I think I made mine for about $20. I should have just bought all of the ornaments from Walmart, those held together fine and did not fall off at all. Oh yeah, shatter- proof ornaments are really shatter-proof, Diego tested that out for me by rolling them on the ground and throwing them.

At first I thought it wasn't working out, so I went back and read the directions and continued on. It got better the more ornaments I put on

This is my finished wreath!

It isn't Potter Barn quality, but it's still cute and very easy to make. Martha would be proud. I even attempted to make a little Martha-esque bow out of the ribbon I bought for my tree. This plaid ribbon was my inspiration for my wreath and my whole color scheme this year. Since I didn't decorate or even put up my tree last year, I have to redeem myself.

Watch out Martha here I come!

I Might Just Be A Hippie

Your probably gonna say I'm nuts, and I might just be. A while back I found Simplemom.net. I read something pretty interesting that I'm dying to try. It's the Oil Cleansing Method, a natural face cleanser using castor oil and extra virgin olive oil. Yes, I know it sounds pretty freaking nuts but I read this over and over it started to make more sense. Basically store bought cleansers strip away the natural oil that we produce, your body reacts by producing more oil. Don't get me wrong folks, I am no freakin tree hugger or anything, I just have been having bad acne issues the last few months and I have decided to try this out. I told my coworkers about it and my boss has started the OCM.
According to simplemom these are some of the benefits of OCM
• your skin will feel softer and look a bit brighter. It won’t feel tight, but it won’t be greasy, either. Olive oil has the same pH as human skin, so it’s the perfect cleansing balancer.

• The OCM also brilliantly removes makeup.

• You also probably won’t need to do this more than once per day.
There you have it. I will be trying this out this holiday weekend, and I will let you know my progress. They also have a post about a natural hair cleaner using baking soda and apple cider vinegar... I'm not sold on that idea yet.

Confessions of a Shopaholic Mom-Part 2

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

My head is filled with ideas for Dylan's first birthday, I thought I would share some them. So far the theme is still "Rockstar" but I tend to change my mind at the last minute.

Inspiration
If you have never heard of RattleNRoll.com go check out this site ASAP. They do custom poster size birth announcments or invites, that look like gig posters from rock concerts. You just send in your picture of your little one and choose a design.

So of course I was not able to have a baby shower for Dylan due to his early arrival. We pretty much were still in the planning phase. I was set on having a non traditional, Rockstar/Punkrock babyshower- my sisters hated it. I saw this cake and my heart dropped, it's the coolest cake ever. I'm basing Dylan's first birthday off this cake and my original desire for a Rockstar shower.

Concert ticket invites!

Of course I have many more ideas running around in my head, but some things just need to be a surprise.

Bust A Move

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Dylan is totally trying to skip the crawling route against my will. He doesn't really do the army crawl just shuffles himself enought to get where he wants to go. He is also trying to pull himself up from the crawling position,he can't quite pull himself up completely, but it really is so funny. Not only that, this weekend we caught him climbing off the couch. Here is a little quick video we caught of him.

Pretty soon I will be chasing after him and Diego.

"Fate chooses your relations, you choose your friends."
- Jacques Delille

Friday was my coworker and dear friend, last day at work. We have worked together for the last 3 years, and we became great friends. I normally do not make friends easily, I always have a wall up, and I don’t reveal to much of myself to just anyone. The few people that I have let my guard down with, are truly great people and I know we will be friends forever. My coworkers and I, are also friends outside of work. We have celebrated every big event possible that can happen together= babies, weddings, surgeries, birthdays. So my friend, Allicia is moving back home to Iowa, and we are definitely going to miss her. When Diego was born, she went to the hospital to meet him and snuggle on him. She was there for his first birthday. We were there for her during her time of need when she had her surgery. Friday was such an emotional day for all of us. When we left our farewell dinner, we just bawled like babies. Here are some pictures of some of our times together.

To all of my friends, I love you guys!

Brothers

Today after bath time, I caught the sweetest pictures of my boys playing together. Diego definitely is enjoying Dylan now that he can kinda crawl and situp and play with him. These two are going to be great buddies.

So later in the day we headed to the mall, and as usual we prevented any tantrums by giving Diego some cookies. This gives us about an hour or so before he wants to climb out of the stroller. This is the conversation that took place as we were leaving the mall:

Me: Diego, you have cookies all over your pants. You made a mess.

Diego: Yeah. Dylie did it Mama.

Me: Dylie dirtied your pants with the cookies?

Diego: Yess. Dylie eat cookie, put on my pant.

Me: Really? Dylan that is not very nice.

Diego: Yeah Dylie not nice.

In the car:

Diego: Dylie, bad boy. No eat my cookie and put on my pant.

Yeah, they are going to be great buddies.

Saturday Morning with my Boys

This weekend was my off weekend, and since Daddy had to work on Saturday, it was just me and my boys. We started off the morning with a pancake breakfast. Diego being the big boy he is, my oh so fabulous helper joined me in the kitchen. He really had so much fun helping me. I took a ton of pictures in different angles, played with the different camera functions, shot without a flash, and in manual mode. My new Facebook friend, who just happens to be a photographer, gave me a BUNCH of shooting tips and advice, so I'm trying to practice as much as I can. Check her out here. She has awesome pictures, I mean awesome- I just love her work, so I'm glad she was nice enough to lend me a hand. So shout out to Meg!

He loved the pancakes. He had about 6 of them, but they were mini pancakes, so I was okay with it.

Mean while, Dylan just hung around and played. No pancakes for Dylan just yet.

Peek-a-boo, I see you!

Also, pretty soon, my blog will have a new look. I'm so excited about that, can't wait!
