It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Sunday, March 7, 2010

We totally took advantage of the beautiful, crazy Texas weather last week and headed outdoors for some playtime. So I dusted off the camera and decided to capture some moments. Can you believe Diego is smiling in this picture. Yeah, I did have to bribe him with "chocwet" or chocolate, in order to get a smile out of him. It totally worked.

It didn't last long.

I'm not sure if this is a serious connection he had with the camera, or he was just wondering why he has such a crazy picture obsessed Mom. I'll take it.

Yeah, didn't last long.

Then I had the brilliant idea to try take a picture of both the boys together smiling. That is an incredibly hard task.

Um, yeah. Didn't quite work out. Diego was more occupied with taking his own pictures, and Dylan was either dancing like in this bottom picture, or occupied with whatever Diego was doing.

This is when they saw Daddy pull up, and I just gave up .

12 Months!

Dear Dylan,

WOW! I can't believe you are a year old now, and I'm both happy and sad. I'm sad that you are not that tiny baby we brought home, so quiet, and peaceful, and precious. You are such a big boy now! You are still a happy little thing but you can have a temper. I look forward to watching you grow into a toddler, and start walking and running and creating a chaos with your big brother. We are truly blessed to have you in our family. We love you so much, we couldn't have asked God for a better gift.

Love Always,

Mommy

You are such a beautiful boy! You love to cuddle and sleep in Mommy and Daddys bed. You are as sweet as can be, but you do have a temper. We still love you, despite that. You say "Mama" and "Dada" you wave bye, and I think you say "what". You try to talk and join in on our conversations.

You are eating more and more table food. Gone are the days of babyfood, you will eat anything and everything we give you. You prefer to feed yourself, although Daddy still trys to feed you. I think he doesn't want to face the fact that you are growing boy. You are starting to like your sippy cup more and more each day, and apple juice. Hopefully your transition from formula to milk will go smoothly. Your favorite foods are spaghetti, eggs and potatoes, pancakes, fries, rice, chicken, macarroni. Actually pretty much anything is your favorite, you are not a picky eater.

You love to play with your big brother and all his cool toys. You love listening to music and you dance like a wild man. You love being outdoors and anywhere besides home. You are always so intrigued and amused by everything you see.

Your hair is finally growing, a little wild I might add. I haven't quiet figured out what to do with it. I can tell your going to have beautiful curls just like your brother did.

You haven't quite mastered walking without holding onto something yet, I think you are kind of scared to take that next step. You can balance yourself pretty well, I think you will be walking soon. You have four teeth, and two more coming in.

You love your Mommy and Daddy! You love to cuddle with us and you have started crying when we walk out of the room. You enjoy spending time with your cousins and the rest of our family. You especially love to be held, all day long if we could.

Baby D I'am so happy to be your Mommy. Your are such a wonderful boy. I love you the moon and back!

Party Like a Rockstar

Monday, March 1, 2010

Finally the day, that I have been planning for at least 6 months has arrived. Dylan's first birthday, Rockstar style! I think everything turned out better than I imagined. The only thing I did not have a chance to do was the VIP passes. I waited until the last minute and then I didn't have a chance to finish them. Still everything came together.

The invitation I ordered from Etsy

We set the table with black table covers and used houndstooth print wrapping paper that I found at Hobby Lobby as runners.

I found these glass vases at the Dollar Tree, glued houndstooth ribbon around and glued a guitar pick graphic I printed on cardstock. The KISS m&m's I found months ago at Walmart on clearance so I bought about 20 bags of them. Each vase had a picture of Dylan from every month of his life. An extra special thanks to Cupcakes and Cutlery for the graphics, links, and inspiration.

These are my favorite things ever! I found these "1" and guitar candy molds at Candy Mold Central. This was my first time working with candy molds and I loved it. I didn't realize until after that you can use different colors for the details. We wrapped two pieces of foam and stuck the lollipops in there.

The cake! My vision became a reality. Thanks Vicky for the delicious cake. We couldn't find the cake topper or the sparklers she provided.

The somewhat smashed/wrinkled goody bags. I filled these with candy, cookies, skull erasers, guitar necklaces, and glow in the dark bracelets. The stickers I also bought off Etsy.

I love this. I originally was going to do Non-alcoholic jello shots, but I scratched that off my list at the last minute. I bought these chalkboards at Kirklands, and the buckets from Target in the dollar bins. I thought it would be cute to fill them with root beer. I did not get a picture of the food, but we served food fit for a Rockstar in training. Corndogs, mini burgers, fries, and hotwings.

The cake when we finally found the guitar topper.

The sign at the door.  We were going to have my brother the "bouncer" at the door checking tickets and handing the kids their VIP passes but that work out.

What's a Rockstar party without a red carpet

Alot of the kids came in their Rockstar best: clothes and mohawks. The kids decorated guitars I found at Michaels. We had a little tattoo shop and Rockstar hairspray going on. The kids loved it!

My nephew graciously posing for me, even though the sun was right in his face.

My birthday boy!

He loved the balloons.

Dylan's tattoo Daddy picked out.

My niece and her purple, which is not her costume but her "normal" highlights.

I had the most fun planning this party. I can't wait for next year! Thanks to all of our friends and our family for helping celebrate Dylan's big day. We love you guys!

ROCK ON!
