Hello 2014

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Hello All! It’s been a long while since I have updated the blog. That is my one goal this year is to update my blog more. The older the boys get and the busier we are with nightly homework and reading, the harder it is to take a break and upload images. I promise I will try my best to stay on top of it in 2014. This year I decided to take my photography journey back to where I started, which is documenting our little life. So, I will be doing a project 52 with My Four Hens, one picture a week for an entire year. Here are my first few weeks, minus one that I accidentally didn’t save or accidentally deleted.

Letters to our Sons | March

Monday, March 25, 2013

This year I’m joining a group of women that share a love for photography and are also Mothers to boys. Each month we will write a new letter to our sons along with photographs. Please follow along with me and the rest of these amazing ladies.

To My Sons,

Every day I see your love for each other grow. I truly enjoy when Diego comes from school and Dylan is happy to see you and showers you with hugs. It melts my heart when Big brothers talks talks about walking Little Brother to class every day once he starts kindergarten. As much as I hate to say this, it makes me smile when Diego helps Dylan climb the counter and sneak into the candy and snacks . I can only hope you will continue to be best of friends as you get older.

I understand that sometimes its not easy being big brother and/or little brother. Sometimes you might need space from each other, and sometimes you might not like each other. Most of the days the ongoing battle between you two for the upper hand is exhausting. The constant fighting and stealing of toys is frustrating. Still, at the end of day, you come together and every night and help each other pick up the mess. Give each other a hug and kiss before bed. Say I love you, then 5 minutes later one or both are fighting over one pillow.

. Remember you will only have one brother, and you will only have your one first best friend. Brothers stick together. I love you both to the moon and back, higher than stars in the sky!

Please visit Lara Growder’s blog to read the next letter!

The Way I View | Food Photography

Saturday, March 2, 2013

This month the theme for our blog circle is food photography. I don’t normally photograph food so this was kind of fun for me. It was nice to step out of my comfort zone for this challenge. Don’t forget to head on over to Colie’s blog to see her take on this months challenge.

I decided to focus on Mexican food that we normally eat at our house. One day we went to a local Mexican grocery store. This grocery store mostly sales brands of food that you typically will find in Mexico. They also have a bakery with traditional Mexican sweet breads that I grew up eating. One of my favorite sweet breads is the “Maranitos”, or “little pig” shaped cookie. I have no idea what the ingredients are. I have never even questioned it before. I’m not sure if its pumpkin or gingerbread, but they are so good.

And of course churros. You can’t go wrong with that.

One day for lunch we had chorizo( mexican sausage) with diced potatoes, topped with queso fresco. I wont lie to you, those are store bought tortillas. The chorizo you find at other big chain grocery stores does not compare to what you find at the Mexican grocery store.

The Way I View | Close Up Portraiture

Saturday, February 2, 2013

For the challenge this month, I brought out my nifty fifty that has been collecting dust ever since I bought the Canon 5d Mk II. We have a love hate relationship right now, but I’m giving him another chance. I managed to convince the boys to let me snap some pictures of them. The only reason they obliged is because I let them stand on the coffee table for this little shoot.

Back to School

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

The day before school started Diego and I had a little back to school shoot. There was really no planning in my part involved. I just decided a few days before I wanted to have a shoot with a school bus in the background. We borrowed some nerd glasses from my niece and put on some of his school clothes and we were ready to go. Apparently these glasses are what all the cool kids are wearing these days. Initially Diego was hesitant about wearing them. I explained to him it would be a quick shoot as long as he followed my instructions and then he could take them off. I stopped at the parking lot of a local preschool down the street from our house, 15 minutes later more or less we were done! I plan to do this every year and making a book for both my boys to give them one day.

I think I have some pretty good looking boys! They sure know how to work the camera, when they feel like it.

Say Cheese!

Friday, October 14, 2011

Nothing makes these boys happier than an ice cream treat. I have been known to bribe them with treats to smile for me.

Madison and Andrew

Sunday, October 9, 2011

My niece and nephew have been forced modeling for me for a good 10 years now. They are almost always up to have their picture taken. I had to share a few taken a few weeks ago.
